Optimizing Movements to Prevent Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever: Empowering Communities in West Java省 through TP PKK Program

Member of the Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK) of West Java Province, Ema Rahmawati, said that her party was optimizing movements to motivate and empower the community to prevent dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

“In accordance with our role, we carry out a motivational movement and mobilize community empowerment by not getting tired of inviting the community, strengthening socialization and detection movements to contribute to preventing dengue fever,” said Ema in Bewara West Java (Beja) at Gedung Sate Bandung, Friday.

Ema said the PKK is optimizing as many as 53 thousand West Java PKK TP cadres to maximize socialization to detect and prevent dengue transmission in 27 districts/cities, as well as innovating the Simultaneous Mosquito Nest Cleaning Movement (Gertak PSN) as a form of mitigation to prevent dengue fever.

“We also encourage West Java to implement the one house one jumantik program, from the family members themselves,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Health Service (Dinkes) Vini Adiani Dewi admitted that the role of the TP PKK was really needed because this community group had direct contact with the community.

The hope is that through intervention from TP PKK it will be able to increase public awareness of their environment, in preventing the transmission of dengue fever.

“It is hoped that this will provide understanding to the public and ultimately be able to carry out procedures for preventing dengue fever,” he said.

According to him, dengue fever is a disease caused by the environment, so what is needed is not to eradicate the virus, but the cause of transmission, namely the environment that supports the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

“So we don’t have to eradicate the virus, but what causes it to be transmitted. This is what can break the chain of transmission and reduce the incidence of dengue fever,” he said.
