KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s new and renewable energy (EBT) potential is very large and must be optimized to support national energy security and achieve the EBT mix target.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif at the opening of the 2023 Indonesia EBTKE Conference and Exhibition (ConEx) on Wednesday (12/7/2023).
“We can take advantage of all new and renewable energy sources if we can build supporting infrastructure, infrastructure that can channel all potential sources to be utilized,” said Arifin.

The NRE potential includes various types of sources ranging from solar, wind, hydro, bioenergy, geothermal, and also marine energy.
The total NRE potential in Indonesia, said Arifin, reached 3,689 gigawatts (GW), as reported by Antara.
“So, our target is to achieve the energy mix in 2030, our target is to be able to achieve zero emission in 2060, this is programmed, well structured, well planned and also requires extra efforts,” said Arifin.
The existing NRE potential is spread throughout Indonesia. For example, the potential for hydro energy is spread throughout Indonesia, especially in North Kalimantan, Aceh, West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Papua.

Geothermal potential is spread across the ring of fire or ring on fire covering Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Maluku.
Then, solar potential is spread throughout Indonesia, especially in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), West Kalimantan and Riau which have higher radiation.
“We already have a map, we have a location where there is geothermal (geothermal), where there is hydro, where there is wind, and where there is solar, where there are also sources from the sea which can indeed be used to generate energy for us. take advantage of it,” said Arifin.

Arifin added, the government also has several policies in place to encourage the use of EBT, one of which is through the New Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBET).
If passed, the EBET Bill will later become the main foundation for Indonesia to be able to make the energy transition more quickly.
“Currently the process of finalizing the discussion of DIM (inventory list of problems) for the draft EBET Law, the point of which is that later it will facilitate businesses in the EBT sector, then they can also utilize existing resources,” said Arifin.
