A three-hour Burgundian gourmet evening uses 4.2 kilowatt hours of electricity. At a median electricity price of 33.70 euro cents per kilowatt hour, this will cost you 1.42 euros.
For a fondue set with a capacity of 3 liters and 6 skewers, the power is approximately 1,300 watts. After the meal, your energy bill has increased by 1.31 euros. Even for the most advanced combination appliances, the consumption costs remain just under 2 euros. So energy costs do not put a damper on the festive spirit.

What is the impact of the capacity rate?
An extra element applies for the first time this year with the capacity rate. That rate is influenced by the highest peak power that you record during fifteen minutes during a month. Since you quickly use up to three appliances for a larger group, the detrimental influence of fondue or gourmet is obvious.
Energy regulator VREG estimates the impact of a party evening at 7.10 euros. Energy expert Dieter Jong previously calculated that in the most extreme case a cost increase of 24 euros or 2 euros per month is possible. In that case, it concerns a family that deliberately keeps its peak power low all year round and suddenly throws off all the brakes on Christmas Day.

If you use different devices, it is advisable to connect them to different sockets. When using a multi-plug, it is best to first check the maximum permitted power. If all appliances together exceed that ceiling, you risk a power outage or – in the worst case – a fire.
