The internal party process was completed on Monday afternoon, where 35 of the 42 SYRIZA MEP candidates emerged. Based on the results, the women-men quota did not apply per region, but on all 35.
For example, the information we had was that out of the 12 in Attica, 6 men and 6 women would be elected, but in the end 8 candidates and 4 women were elected.
One man and one woman were elected in all bicameral constituencies. In the tetrahedral one, of Central Macedonia, two and two were elected respectively. Out of the seven one-party contests, the winners in four were women and in three, men.
A total of 16 women and 19 men emerged from the elections. Elena Kountoura and Kostas Arvanitis will definitely be candidates.
Five candidates will be chosen by Stefanos Kasselakis. To implement the statutory commitment to an equal number of male and female candidates (21-21), the SYRIZA president will choose 4 women and one man.
The entire ballot will be presented on Friday at a big event in Athens.

Satisfaction with participation
From Koumoundourou they emphasize that the process was deemed completely successful. Over 63,000 voters voted in the elections, of which 57,000 are old and new members and approximately 6,000 friends. In simple words, from Sunday’s process, SYRIZA was also strengthened organizationally. It is recalled that it was decided to implement the register of friends, which is provided for by the statutes.
The goal is overthrow
SYRIZA’s goal for the June elections is to significantly close the gap with the ND, which, as Stefanos Kasselakis has said, will be the first step for a total reversal in the national elections.
Optimism, although restrained, is not hidden in Koumoundourou, since all the latest opinion polls show the deterioration of the government, while it seems that SYRIZA is developing momentum.
“Limiting the gap is not only a victory for SYRIZA-PS, but a victory for the restoration of the image in the political scene” said the party’s press representative, Voula Kehagia to OREN and added:
“What had happened in June with one party having primacy and absolute dominance and the rest trailing far behind was a picture that displeased many. So we want things to be restored. I hope that SYRIZA-PS will gain such momentum that it will be able to cut the thread first, but we believe that in any case the picture in the political scene of the country on the night of the elections will be completely different”.
