Oprah Winfrey Visits Devastated Maui Forest Fires, Assists Victims and Plans for Rebuilding

Journalist, businesswoman and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey traveled to Hawaii in the middle of the forest fires that have destroyed the island of Mauiwhich is frequently visited by the also producer.

The fire has grown bigger and bigger because of the wind, which forced the locals and tourists to evacuate the place. By Sunday, August 13, 93 deaths were already counted and the incident was described as “the deadliest forest fire in the US in more than 100 years.”

In addition to the almost 100 people who died, the fires have destroyed more than 2,000 structures. All this made Winfrey, a partial resident of the island, visit the place to see the damage with her own eyes and also share with the victims.

Of course, one of his objectives was also to be able to record the situation to report on television about what is happening on the island; however Maui County and other authorities denied Winfrey access to the shelter with the cameras.

Through Facebook, the same county of Maui thanked the presenter for the visit. They wrote: “We welcome Oprah as she continues to uplift the spirit of our community and bring her aloha to the victims of the tragic disaster. Your visit inside the shelter today was truly moving and we appreciate your understanding of our no camera equipment policy. or reporters escorting dignitaries and celebrities into our emergency shelters.”

Similarly, the journalist has taken advantage of her visit to speak with those affected and inquire about their needs. The media assure that so far he has donated pillows, shampoo, diapers, sheets, towels and other items.

He also promised that he would help rebuild the community, according to the local outlet ‘Hawaii News Now’. He said: “In a week or two, all the cameras will be gone and the rest of the world will go on with their lives and we’ll all still be here trying to figure out how best to rebuild. I’ll be here for the long haul, doing what I can.”

All this interest in the situation on the island is also related to the mansions that the presenter has on the spot and that could even be considered her most precious real estate projector. Several years ago he bought a piece of land with a simple farm house on it.which he demolished to build what is now a mansion.

Winfrey is so proud of this project that she even displays it through its website.
