Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt read the book The Water Dancer of Ta-Nehisi Coates filming, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Winfrey and Pitt, with their production companies Harpo Films and Plan B, are involved in the film, which is being made for the MGM film studio.
The Water Dancer is about Hiram Walker, who is born a slave. Although he has an exceptionally good memory, he has no memories of his late mother. After a car accident it becomes clear to him that he has special gifts.
“Hiram’s story is about his commitment to those he loves and his journey to bring them together,” MGM’s Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy said in a statement.
The 45-year-old Coates is a journalist and author and previously wrote the bestseller Between the World and Me.
