When the power of the people and the government decided to officially propose the right to request reconsideration (veto) of the enactment of the Nursing Act to President Seok-Yeol Yoon, the opposition party strongly protested.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Minister of Welfare and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong held a briefing on the Nursing Act at the Seoul Government Complex and said, “At the party-government council held yesterday, we decided to propose a request for reconsideration of the Nursing Act according to Article 53, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution.”
Minister Cho pointed out that “the Korean government places the highest priority on protecting people’s health.
It is said that there is a concern that the nursing bill will break trust and collaboration between occupational fields in the medical field, causing conflict to spread.
Currently, the Korean Medical Association and 13 health and medical organizations in solidarity centered on nursing assistants are strongly opposing the enactment of the Nursing Act. Accordingly, the government judges that the impact on public health, such as disruption of medical care, will be inevitable.
Minister Cho continued, “If only nursing care is separated from medical care, there is a risk that people’s rights will be limited, and an advanced care system in the aging era must be carefully designed.” The roles between job roles for collaboration with the government must be reestablished to meet the needs of the people,” he said.
Regarding this, Park Kwang-on, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at the highest level meeting on the 15th, “The government and the ruling party even hold a party-government meeting to officially propose the exercise of the right to veto the Nursing Act to the President.” It is truly embarrassing,” he pointed out.
He said, “The Nursing Act is a public livelihood bill directly related to national health, and even the enactment of the Nursing Act was President Yoon’s presidential campaign pledge.” He added that he strongly urges that the Nursing Act be promulgated as normal at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.”
In particular, Representative Park said, “We gained votes through the presidential election pledge, and now the ‘Nurse Selfishness Law’ is not enough, so we are pressuring them, saying it is a ‘medical system collapse law’.” It is dangerous,” he criticized.
