Opposition Party Leader Denounces Proposed Constitutional Changes, Calls for Unified Elections

“There will be no constitutional changes under Bulgarian dictation, neither now nor in the future, when VMRO-DPMNE will form a government, if the circumstances do not change”, said the chairman of the opposition party Hristiyan Mitkoski, according to whom this means that the Prime Minister and Chairman of the SDSM Dimitar For Kovachevski to continue insisting that a two-thirds majority be secured in the parliament for changes to the constitution is “politicism”.

Mickoski, who for several weeks launched the campaign “It’s important! The changes depend on you”, touring populated areas in the country with mayors of VMRO-DPMNE, today he was in Stip municipality. Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, for his part, attended a meeting in the monastery “St. Dimitar” in Selce village, Prilep municipality.

The presidential and parliamentary elections to be held next year have become one of the leading topics in the country, not only because of the different positions on whether they should be held at the same time, but also in the overall political vocabulary.

“More than 15 months have passed (since it became clear that changes should be made to the constitution), a little more than 5 months are left until the campaign for the presidential elections, we will see for the parliamentary ones as well. We remain focused on our intention for a historic (election) result,” Mickoski said today, according to whom the opposition candidate will lead by one hundred thousand votes over his opponent in the presidential elections.

“The victory of the SDSM and the European Front in next year’s presidential elections will be the first defeat of the anti-European concept. The SDSM candidate will win the presidential elections. Because the citizens do not want new isolation, for young people to leave the country, they do not want stagnation and uncertainty. With the victory, we will guarantee that the direction of the country will remain European. The victory of the SDSM and the European Front in the parliamentary elections and the formation of the new pro-European government by the SDSM will be the second defeat of the anti-European politicians. Because the citizens want a European future, higher wages, a better standard of living, they want young people to build their future in a European country, at home, in their homeland. This will be a victory for an advanced, rich, strong, European Macedonia”, Kovacevski said at the event in which he participated.

The chairman of the opposition party, Hristijan Mickoski, who in the last week insisted on a leadership meeting to set the dates for the elections, which Kovacevski refused, confirmed that he accepts the talks to be within working groups in the parliament and called on Kovacevski to determine the participants in the working groups.

“From what we’ve seen so far, Kovacevski is a proven coward, running away from elections, running away from debates, running away from journalistic issues, constantly running away from something. If he is afraid (of a leadership meeting), let him appoint people who are ready to sit down with the people from VMRO-DPMNE and talk, because in a few months we have two key processes for the future of Macedonia, namely the presidential and parliamentary elections. Mickoski pointed out.

In the next year in North Macedonia – March – April, presidential elections should be held, and in May – June – parliamentary elections. According to the opposition, the two elections should be held together for financial reasons. However, according to Parliament Speaker Talat Jaferi, the only possible date to comply with the requirements of the Electoral Code and for the elections to be held on the same date is for the second round of the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on May 5, Easter./BTA, Marinela Velichkova/
