“Opposition Parties Demand Clarity and Decisiveness from Cabinet Amid Nitrogen Crisis”

The opposition parties are very critical of the unclear message from the cabinet last Friday, when it reacted to the election results of the Provincial Council elections.

Accelerate nitrogen approach

For example, the cabinet says it wants to accelerate the nitrogen approach, but it is completely unclear how the cabinet intends to do this.

In addition, the CDA and D66 are still diametrically opposed to each other on this, but the House wants to answer today about which way the cabinet wants to take this.

And whether the cabinet will be able to give a clear answer to this today, remains to be seen.

‘Hallucinatory display’

RTL News spoke to Jesse Klaver of GroenLinks about last Friday’s press conference, in which Rutte responded to the election results:

“I really thought it was a hallucinatory performance. In which there is speeding up, but also slowing down at the same time. In which the coalition agreement is broken open, but not now, but only in a few weeks. Yes, this is really unacceptable.”

New elections

JA21 has also indicated that it wants new elections, as distrust in the coalition is currently high. Just like the distrust that reigns in society towards the politics of The Hague.

“The cabinet is up to its neck in quicksand. Only the voter can pull the cabinet out of it.”

But whether new elections are the solution is by no means certain. Both the coalition parties and many opposition parties are not in good shape.

Clarity and decisiveness

On the other hand, the opposition does not want a possible government crisis – especially CDA and D66 to be diametrically opposed to each other in the nitrogen crisis – to remain ‘above the market’ for months.

In the debate, the opposition will demand clarity sooner and more decisiveness will be demanded from the cabinet.
