Opposition parties led by the Congress have marched towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi seeking a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani-Hindenburg issue. The protestors are requesting a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu and are calling the recent buzz around Rahul Gandhi’s sentencing a ploy to distract from the Prime Minister’s alleged friendship with billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani. Gujarat’s Surat court recently sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail for a 2019 criminal defamation case, which he has called a ploy to silence him. Congress states in several regions have also launched protests, accusing the Centre of political vendetta. Meanwhile, the BJP has said the conviction has come from an independent judiciary after Mr Gandhi insulted the OBC community with his ‘thief’ remark.
