Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado participated on Wednesday (28.08.2024) in a new protest against the re-election of President Nicolás Maduro, which the opposition considers fraudulent, and assured that they will make the ruling Chavismo “give in.” In addition, she said that no democracy in the world has recognized the legitimacy of the elections.
“They say that the regime is not going to give in. You know what? We are going to make it give in, and giving in means respecting the will expressed on July 28,” Machado said. “This protest is unstoppable,” she added. The politician came out of hiding to participate in the rally that brought together thousands of people. She arrived at the demonstration camouflaged in a black hooded sweater.
“We have to protect ourselves, take care of ourselves,” she said, fearing for her life. “Every day that passes we are moving forward, we have a robust strategy and it is working. We have to think about what we have done this month, it is a hard time and we knew it, we knew what was coming,” she added. “We have managed to turn the cause for the freedom of Venezuela into a world cause, a global cause.”
Call to soldiers
“Not a single democratic government in the world has recognized Maduro’s fraud. Venezuela voted for change and (the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform, PUD) Edmundo González Urrutia is our president-elect,” said the former deputy. “They believed that with this decision, which cannot even be called a verdict, they were going to deceive some countries, but no one accepted this trick,” she continued.
One month after the accusation of electoral fraud and while Maduro has the support of all institutions, Machado said that “those who believe that time favors the regime are wrong, it is quite the opposite, every day that passes they are more isolated. There is no turning back, we are moving forward,” insisted the leader, who also sent a message to the members of the Armed Forces.
“Look at your children, your mothers, your wives. You know what you have to do at this time when the regime is persecuting a people who have already decided to move towards freedom,” he said.
