Opposite side does not have a say

The editors received the following letter to the editor regarding the article “Union calls plans for parking tickets ‘immoral'” from January 18:

Resistance forms in Würzburg. The outrage is huge. More than 6000 citizens have signed a petition. Why is? Is it because Vladimir Putin is planning to invade Ukraine? Or is it about families starving and freezing to death in the border area between Belarus and Poland? Or that corona deniers are not allowed to hold demonstrations that have not been registered and approved? No, much, much worse: Parking at the Talavera will cost something in the future.

Even the Main-Post makes little effort to appear neutral. In a commentary poorly disguised as a factual article, Ernst Lauterbach scolds the majority of city councilors and, citing numerous actual or supposed authorities, accuses them of ignoring the concerns of the citizens. The other side doesn’t even get a word in the article.

Why should it be taken for granted that six to ten square meters of tin should be parked in the city center free of charge every day? Every restaurateur has to pay for placing guest tables on urban areas. In Stockholm you have to pay to drive into the city center without having the right to a parking space. The city center has been booming since the city toll was introduced. Perhaps, despite parking fees on the Talavera, the West will not come to an end?
