Opportunity for Students to Connect with Astronauts on the International Space Station

Students from the Baldwin Union Free School District in Baldwin, New York, this week will have the opportunity to hear directly from astronauts on the International Space Station. The Earth-to-space call will be broadcast live at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, October 27, on NASA Television, the NASA app and the agency’s website.

NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, a Baldwin Union Free School District alumnus, will answer pre-recorded questions from students.

Media interested in covering the event should RSVP by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25, to Mary Furcht at [email protected] or 516-434-6012.

Educational opportunities for students to talk to astronauts living and working on the space station are provided by the Office of STEM Engagement’s Next Gen STEM project.

For nearly 23 years, astronauts continued to live and work on the space station, testing technology, conducting science, and developing the skills necessary to explore beyond Earth. Astronauts living in space in the orbiting laboratory communicate with NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston 24 hours a day via the Near Space Communications and Navigation Network (SCaN).

Important research and technological investigations conducted on the International Space Station benefit humans on Earth and lay the foundation for future exploration.

As part of Artemis, NASA will send astronauts to the Moon to prepare for future human exploration of Mars. Inspiring the next generation of explorers – the Artemis Generation – ensures America will continue to lead in space exploration and discovery.
