Oppo continues to stimulate the imagination around the future prowess of its rollable smartphone, the Oppo X 2021. The brand introduces a new wireless and remote charging technology called Oppo Wireless Air Charging.

The era of all wireless is still fantasized, but charging technologies have developed rapidly in recent years under the leadership of a few major players in consumer electronics. The epicenter of this new battle is in China where Xiaomi, Huawei and Oppo are scrambling to find out who will charge faster and farthest. Oppo released a 30s clip that shows off this remote charging tech, compatible with their roll-up concept phone – the one we recently picked up.
You can see the smartphone charging, even if it is lifted about twenty centimeters above what looks like a charging mat embedded in a “piece of furniture”. The brand does not provide any details for the moment on the loading distance or the speed, but we imagine that despite the goodwill of the manufacturer, the energy loss is significant. Additional information should be provided by the firm in the coming days at the MWC in Shanghai.

This Oppo announcement follows that of Xiaomi which presented its Mi Air Charge solution at the end of January 2021. A little more details were then given since Xiaomi mentioned a 5 W load “Up to several meters”. As for Xiaomi’s charging station, it has little to do with the “mat” presented by Oppo, in the form of a bulky block to be installed in the room concerned.
