Jakarta: Oppo showed off a prototype of its first foldable screen cellphone in 2019, but has not officially released or even announced the final version of the product. This will change this quarter.
According to information from the leakster Digital Chat Station (DCS), Oppo will launch its first foldable screen phone in Q2 of 2021. Now, DCS says that Oppo will release two models of folding screen phones.
Both Oppo folding screen phone models carry 8-inch and 7-inch screen sizes and come with an inward folding mechanism, as reported by GSM Arena. The 7-inch model is reportedly gearing up for mass production in January, making it the first model to hit the market.
Apart from Oppo, Vivo is also reportedly developing a folding screen phone, with an inward folding mechanism. The phone will come with an internal screen measuring 8 inches and an external screen measuring 6.5 inches.
In addition, this Vivo folding screen phone also carries a high refresh rate, at least on one of the panels. Questioning the panel, this folding screen smartphone is expected to use a panel made by Samsung.
In 2020, Oppo also demonstrated a rolling screen prototype phone, titled Oppo X 2021. This phone has the ability to change the screen size from 6.7 inches to 7.4 inches.
However, until now, there is no information regarding the opportunity that the rolling screen smartphone will be mass produced and marketed widely. Previously, Oppo announced a collaboration with Garena Indonesia.
This collaboration makes Oppo officially the sponsor of the 2021 Spring AOV Star League (ASL) esports tournament, and the Reno5 5G to become the official mobile for the tournament.
