OPPO shows concept for smartphone with roll-out screen | NOW

OPPO showed its new concept phone OPPO X 2021 during its own event on Tuesday. The screen can be made wider by rolling it out.

The Chinese company calls its roller phone a good alternative to folding phones. “This solution allows you to make a screen bigger without feeling the fold,” says OPPO.

OPPO showed a phone with a 6.7-inch OLED screen. By pulling on the right, the screen can be pulled out to 7.4 inches. This is possible because two panels have been placed under the screen that can slide in and out of each other. This keeps the device flat. The screen rolls up to the edge.

The advantage of a retractable screen, according to OPPO, is that it does not have to be fully extended. Users determine how wide the screen will be. The screen can be rolled out until the black bars on videos are no longer visible. For example, by rolling out the screen completely, there is more space to place apps next to each other.

It is not known whether OPPO will further develop the device to market. For the time being it is only a draft version. OPPO wouldn’t be the only manufacturer working on these types of phones. According to rumors, Samsung and LG also make devices with roll-out screens.
