JAKARTA – OPPO became the smartphone company that controlled the mobile market in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2021. That, according to data from the Canalyst research institute.
Canalys said that in the first quarter of 2021, OPPO recorded a market share of 24%, the largest among other cellphone manufacturers. Previously, OPPO was in second place. And now they are up one rank compared to the previous quarter.

Vivo’s position, which in the fourth quarter of 2020 was claimed to be in the first position, was shifted two notches back to third with a market share of 19%.
Vivo did stumble upon a case when one of their cellphone models caught fire in the apron of Hong Kong International Airport. As a result, a number of airlines such as Garuda Indonesia and others have prohibited the carrying of Vivo cellphones in their luggage. Until now, airport authorities in Hong Kong are investigating why hundreds of Vivo cellphones caught fire.
Meanwhile, Samsung, which leads the mobile market in the world, is ranked second in Indonesia. According to Canalyst, Samsung’s market share stands at 19 percent.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi and realm are in the fourth and fifth positions respectively in the first quarter of 2021. Xiaomi has a market share of 18% while reality is 12%.
On a global scale, Samsung itself listed itself as the mobile brand with the largest shipments in the world in the first quarter of 2021. According to data from Canalys, Samsung has a 22% market share and shipped 76.5 million units. Samsung’s position shifted Apple, which in the last quarter of 2020 dominated.
In the first quarter of 2021, Apple is in second place with a market share of 15 percent and shipments of 52.4 million.

Xiaomi is in third place with a market share of 14% and shipped 49 million mobile units. Canalyst did record cellphone data sent from factories to distributors / sellers, not the number of cellphones sold to consumers.
