Cameras are a key part of today’s mobile phones. Especially with flagships, users pay close attention to the quality of photos, and manufacturers try to constantly push their cameras forward. Taking excellent photos with the main sensor is no longer enough, the trend is a proper telephoto lens!

If we look at last year’s flagships, just look at the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Both offer a pair of telephoto lenses, and the quality of the zoomed-in photos matches it. Maybe the OnePlus Open went a little further, although it only has one telephoto lens, but thanks to the high resolution of the sensor used, the results are very nice. Two telephoto lenses have long been confirmed for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and they will almost certainly not be missing from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, when last year’s model offered them. Now the Oppo Find X7 Ultra has joined the fraythis flagship also offers two telephoto lenses!
Who will win the telephoto fight? There are many candidates…
The Honor Magic6 series will probably only have one telephoto lens, but it is speculated to use a very high-resolution telephoto lens, which could be up to 160 megapixels. We’ll see if this solution can beat the competition or at least match it, but personally I don’t fully believe it (otherwise Samsung and Xiaomi would have gone in this direction, but maybe Honor can surprise).
I myself wonder how much the customers will ultimately decide the quality of telephoto lenses and who will win this duel of telephoto lenses. I admit that I hardly used the 10x telephoto lens on the Huawei P40 Pro+. With the current Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the maximum zoom is 5x (if we exclude the digital zoom), but for normal photography I usually use a maximum of 3x zoom. It is the quality of the photos at 2-3x zoom that is most important to me. But this is a matter of preference, and if someone takes pictures regularly with 10x zoom, I certainly won’t take it away from themin good light the resulting images can be nice.
