OPPO Find X5 Pro – High-end with Hasselblad technology

In brief

OPPO has raised the bar even higher with the Find X5 Pro. The smartphone looks sleek and feels luxurious. The ceramic housing and the asymmetrical camera island are nice plus points and it fits comfortably in the hand. The 10-bit color display is one of the better color reproductions, but not as bright as other flagships. The main and wide-angle cameras have the same high-end sensor and the smartphone takes very nice photos with it. The selfie camera is a bit less and the telephoto camera can zoom less far than the competitor. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in this device is a powerhouse, but a hothead. Fortunately, the smartphone does not throttle quickly. The included bloatware detracts somewhat from the flagship feel, but luckily these apps can be easily removed. If you value color fidelity, a very good camera and a powerful processor, the OPPO Find X5 Pro is a good choice.

OPPO may not yet be a major player in the Benelux, but it is doing its best to become one. The BBK subsidiary has been making good progress for some time now and is releasing smartphones in various price ranges, including in the high-end segment. The Find X5 Pro is the flagship, with which OPPO wants to join the big boys. So it has pulled out all the stops to make this possible.

With this device, the company mainly focuses on photography and has equipped the main camera and the wide-angle camera with the same sensor. In addition, the company has entered into a partnership with Hasselblad and has its own npu, or neural processing unit, developed to take photo processing to the next level. In addition, OPPO has invested heavily in color processing and color reproduction. Not only must the screen be able to display more than a billion colors, the possibility to take 10bit photos is also present. The housing has also been addressed. The shape of the housing largely corresponds to that of the Find X3 Pro, but the camera island has been given an asymmetrical shape, so that the device fits even better in the hand. In addition, the housing is no longer made of glass, but of ceramic. According to OPPO, this material is more scratch-resistant than a luxury watch.

Furthermore, the smartphone is equipped with the latest, most powerful components: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm, a lot of memory, a wqhd screen with variable 120Hz refresh rate and features such as super fast (wireless) charging. According to OPPO, all these components and functions should make this device the best flagship smartphone and that is also reflected in what the company asks for the Find X5 Pro: no less than 1299 euros. That is more than the introductory price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max. We will find out in this review whether this device is really worth this money.
