Oppo A78 4G Review: Design, Back Appearance, and Screen Display

KOMPAS.com – Oppo has just started selling its newest mid-range smartphone (HP) from the Oppo A-Series line, namely the Oppo A78 4G in Indonesia on Wednesday (12/7/2023).

KompasTekno had the opportunity to hold the Oppo A78 4G for the first time, to find out how the design and appearance of this cellphone is from various sides.

In appearance, the design of the back or shell (case) of this cellphone is one of the things that catches our attention. This is because the appearance of the back of this cellphone is very much different from cellphones that are included in other members of the Oppo A-Series family.

Incidentally, the Oppo A78 4G variant that we tested was the glossy green variant, aka “Sea Green”. This color variant will give a glossy green effect that has a diamond-like pattern. Oppo calls this design the “Diamond Matrix”.

As the name suggests, this design will make the rough back of the cellphone look wavy with sparkling diamond patterns when viewed from all sides. This effect also appears when the back of the cellphone is exposed to sunlight.

With a design like this, we can conclude that the Oppo A78 4G is the most beautiful Oppo A-Series cellphone available today, especially in the Indonesian market.

Another color variant of the Oppo A78 4G, namely “Black Mist”, can be said to have a similar feel to some of the existing Oppo A-Series phones.

This is because the shell of the cellphone will be coated with a shiny black color, but not too eye-catching.

Still a matter of design, the back of this device is also decorated with two circular camera modules arranged vertically. The shape or design of this camera is similar to the Oppo Reno8 T Series cellphone.

This means that the two camera modules in the Oppo A78 4G have a fairly large “bump”, so the user must be careful when placing the device with its back facing the surface.

The camera module at the top contains a 50 MP main camera, while the bottom camera module contains a 2 MP depth sensor camera and LED flash to help photography in dark places.

The screen is relieved and bright

Turning to the front, the Oppo A78 4G has a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD Plus resolution. This screen feels relieved because it has a fairly thin bezel in its class. On paper, the screen to body ratio of this phone is claimed to reach 90.8 percent.

Because it is quite spacious, this screen is fairly comfortable to use to enjoy various entertainment content such as YouTube, Netflix, et al.

Apart from being wide, the Oppo A78 4G screen also feels quite smooth because it has adopted a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The screen is also quite responsive because it already has a maximum touch sampling rate of up to 180 Hz.

For the screen brightness level, the Oppo A78 4G has a brightness of around 500 nits. With this brightness number, the content on the screen can still be seen quite well, even if the cellphone is used in hot sunlight.

Discussing the screen, the top left of the Oppo A78 4G screen is decorated with a camera hole (punch hole). This camera hole contains an 8 MP selfie camera. For user convenience, the screen of this cellphone has also been covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

This means that the screen will probably be sturdy enough to withstand some minor bumps or scratches.

Slim, lightweight, comfortable to hold

In terms of grip comfort, we can say that the Oppo A78 4G is comfortable to hold for long.

This is because this cellphone has a thickness dimension of 7.93 mm for the Sea Green variant and 7.99 mm for the Black Fog variant. This thickness dimension figure is quite thin and similar to several premium cellphones in the Oppo Reno Series line.

With dimensions of under 8 mm thickness, as well as height and width dimensions of 160 mm and 73.23 mm, this phone can be considered quite slim. That way, we can operate this phone comfortably even if we only use one hand.

Besides being thin, the Oppo A78 4G is also quite light and is quite comfortable and not complicated to carry around. This is because the weight of this cellphone ranges from 180 grams, lighter than other models in the Oppo A-Series.

Apart from being slim and light, this phone is also comfortable to hold because the frame adopts a flat design. That is, the cellphone will not be too slippery if held for too long.

Regarding the frame, the Oppo A78 4G also comes with a number of essential buttons and connectors that are quite complete.

At the bottom of the device, there is a 3.5mm audio jack, microphone hole, USB-C connector and speaker hole. Meanwhile, on the top frame of this phone there are no buttons or any holes.

Then on the right frame of the Oppo A78 4G there is a power and volume button, while on the left side of the device there is a triple slot type SIM card drawer button. In other words, this card drawer can hold two SIM cards and one microSD type memory card.

Fill in the sales box

In Indonesia, the Oppo A-Series cellphone, which has a beautiful back design, can be obtained at a price of IDR 3.6 million.

By spending that much money, in addition to mobile units, buyers of the Oppo A78 4G will get some of the accessories that are in the contents of the sales box.

Some of them are an adapter or “head” charger with a power of 67 watts, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, a SIM ejector, a manual, and a cell phone case to protect the device from various impacts.

That is, users will not get earphone accessories, even though the Oppo A78 4G actually provides a 3.5mm audio jack hole.

The design of the Oppo A78 4G sales box itself is now different from various other Oppo A-Series phones.

If the Oppo A-Series which has been marketed in Indonesia has a sales box decorated with light blue, the Oppo A78 4G sales box is now dominated by white with light brown accents.

Right on this brown accent, the number “78” is written which indicates the model of the cellphone, namely the Oppo A78 4G.
