opinion metro line 12 – Telemundo San Antonio (60)

MEXICO CITY – Forty-four days later the authorities offered an explanation about the possible causes of the accident on line 12 of the Mexico City subway, where 26 people died on the night of May 3.

“This is a preliminary report. The Norwegian company DNV was in charge of preparing the opinion and determined that construction deficiencies and bolt welding failures were the probable origin of the collapse of the trains,” said Claudia Sheinbaum, the head of government.

“The bolts present deficiencies in the surfaces of the union and are not equidistant, which is why it does not comply with the design,” said Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, secretary of Works and Services, in the capital government.

In addition, deformations and fractures were found in the girders and beams.

“The deformation in the beams that make up the steel concrete bridge on the south side is observed, the section on which the train was rotating at the time of the incident,” said Esteva Medina.

The investigation has not yet concluded, and it is that in the area other factors such as: operation, repairs and poorly carried out rehabilitations, could influence the accident.

“We all know that they are failures from the beginning, the subway was never good,” says Bernarda Salgado, mother of Tania, a 15-year-old survivor who is still hospitalized.

Marisol Tapia demands justice and that it be accepted that her son died due to negligence.

Salgado is not satisfied with the results and now asks for support for the minor.

“I demand that they retire her for life because she does not think it will be the same,” Salgado stressed, and her claim is twofold because her other daughter, Nancy, died in the accident.

“I am very angry because that could have been prevented from the beginning,” she says.

Other survivors, such as Sergio Reynaldo Hernández, demand that those responsible also be imprisoned.

“There is not one, there are many because there are foreign and Mexican companies,” says Hernández.

While the ruling concludes, several affected already prepare a class action lawsuit and do not lose hope that the next season will be that of justice.
