Worse yet, in Costa Rica the population employed in informal employment ronda the 929,000 people. These people have the right to be vaccinated in the country, however, they face a large series of obstacles that an eventual universal vaccination mandate must take into account. These almost one million people, who work informally, have no institutional support network, no labor rights, and it is highly probable that they do not have savings either. For many of these people, taking the time to go to a vaccination center means investing time that they would otherwise spend working, which consequently means lost income. And the possibility of losing income for a day or two, in the event that side effects from the vaccine prevent them from working, is a powerful incentive against vaccination.
