Opinion: Former British Prime Minister Cameron Becoming Foreign Secretary Sparks Controversy

HomeOpinionComments

Malice in Brussels is entirely justified if former British Prime Minister Cameron becomes Foreign Secretary in the Sunak government.

David Cameron returns from profitable political talk retirement to take over the Foreign Office of His Majesty’s Government. There is a lot of clamor about this: the person primarily responsible for the disastrous British politics since the Brexit referendum in 2016 and for the inhumane austerity policy in the years before is returning!

“Poetic Justice” – David Cameron has to eat out the Brexit soup

But be careful: In English there is the beautiful word “poetic justice”. This means the far too often fictional fact that the bad guys believe it again at some point. And that’s how you can see it when Brexit Prime Minister number four, Rishi Sunak, brings the person who caused Brexit into the cabinet. Now Cameron can eat out the soup he brought to Europe. Malice in Brussels is absolutely justified. But Cameron will hardly do a worse job than Greetings August James Cleverly, who is moving to the Home Office.

Next round in the Tory civil war

Cleverly, instead of the unleashed agitator Suella Braverman, will perhaps bring more pragmatic calm to the home office. That wouldn’t be bad. But that doesn’t mean peace for Sunak: the prime minister, who is decried as a flyweight, has other ministers in the fire trail of the Braverman, who has only been banned for the moment. The next round of the Tory civil war in Great Britain is upon us.
