Ophthalmologist gave advice on preserving vision during self-isolation | Petrozavodsk SPEAKS | Newspaper “Petrozavodsk” online

During the period of self-isolation, many people spend time at a computer, smartphone or TV, which can provoke myopia and glaucoma. Ophthalmologist of the First Town Hospital, Ph.D. Natalia Bakunina told aif.ru how to support her vision.

First of all, you need to adjust the distance from the eyes to the monitor, advises the specialist. The safe distance can be calculated by the formula: multiply the diagonal of the computer screen by 2.54 and another 1.75. The resulting distance in centimeters is optimal in accordance with the screen size.

In addition, the room should be well lit, it is desirable that the light source is located on the left. Do not use gadgets while lying down.

It is not superfluous when working at a computer to take regular breaks for 5-10 minutes once an hour. It’s not recommended for children to sit at a computer for more than 40 minutes a day, and for teenagers for more than 70 minutes. During a pause, it is advisable to do exercises for the eyes.

If you have to work at the computer a lot, Bakunin advises drinking a multivitamin complex for the eyes, including vitamins of group B and vitamin C. If there is a feeling of dryness and burning in the eyes, the specialist advises to immediately start using moisturizing drops so that dry eye syndrome does not begin to progress.
