Martine Vassal, President of the Departmental Council and the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, accompanied by Christophe Mirmand, Prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, Jean-Luc Beccari, Departmental Director of Sdis 13 and representatives of prevention and of the fight against forest fires, carried out this Thursday April a major operation to raise awareness of the legal obligations to clear brushwood (OLD) in the area of Châteauneuf-les-Martigues.
Accompanied by firefighters and foresters-sappers, the authorities met local residents affected by the OLDs and witnessed the clearing along the traffic lanes on a portion of the RD 48 and a section of the A55. This field visit allowed a very concrete presentation of the achievements of clearing of the brush of the services of the State, the Department, the communes and the private individuals.
In welcoming all those involved in the prevention and fight against forest fires, Martine Vassal declared: “ More than a challenge, respecting brush clearance is a duty for the future of our territory and we must all be actors in our security! To support the preventive actions of our firefighters, with the Department, we are dedicating more than 95 million euros to SDIS 13. The Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis is also committed to the tune of 4 million euros for the preservation of our massifs ».
