Operation Net Square: Gendarmes Carry Out Massive Drug Trafficking Operation in Ramonville-Saint-Agne, Toulouse

the essentials This Wednesday, the gendarmes carried out an operation to combat drug trafficking in Ramonville-Saint-Agne, around the metro and the Cité rose. There were more than seventy of them deployed south of Toulosue.

“Operation net square”. The motivations of the gendarmes deployed Wednesday afternoon on the ground in Ramonville-Saint-Agne, southeast of Toulouse, are clear. More than seventy members of the Villefranche-de-Lauragais company and the mobile gendarmerie squadron sealed off the entire sector. A way of “reassuring the population while disturbing the delinquents”, summarizes General Philippe Corréoso.

This spectacular intervention responds to a directive from the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron. This is not the first carried out in Haute-Garonne and the authorities promise their multiplication in the coming weeks.

A presence that reassures

“This deployment is impressive. I am very happy to see them. This reassures me, because here, groups of young people hang out regularly. I’m always afraid of being robbed,” confides Alexandre, at the exit of the Ramonville Saint-Agne metro entrance where dozens of users were asked to reveal their identities. “We have also distributed teams to control the movement of motorists,” adds squadron leader Léa Chambonnière, who commands the Villefrance-de-Lauragais gendarmerie company.

Before his eyes, around 6 p.m., a young delivery man was stopped. And by entering his name in the files, the police realized that he was involved in a drug case. His vehicle was emptied. Then a Malinois took the opportunity to sniff all the packages in search of an illicit substance. “Reassure, he can leave,” orders a gendarme, before heading towards the “Pink City”, located opposite the metro station, on the other side of the dual carriageway. “We have received reports from the population. Neighbors complain about a recurring deal point. We are here to provide security for local residents, and to put an end to drug trafficking which is affecting the daily lives of residents in the area,” summarizes Commander Léa Chambonnière.

The common areas of the buildings were combed with a fine-tooth comb, always with a dog responsible for detecting apartments likely to house drugs. Nothing was left to chance, right down to the electrical cabinets. According to our information, this operation made it possible to apprehend several people. “It’s good to see them here. We hope that this will help to resolve the problem. Drug trafficking is a daily occurrence here,” regrets a resident.
