The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, ensures, this Monday, June 29, 2020, that the government of his country has “prepared a series of protocols” to facilitate the transit of Moroccans wishing to return to their country as part of the operation Marhaba.

In statements to Cadena Ser radio, the head of Spanish diplomacy insisted that there will be no “transit operation as in previous years”, with more than 700,000 vehicles and three million Moroccans traveling from northern Europe, while clarifying that this “does not mean that there will be no citizens who will make this trip”.

“The protocols are in place and are perfectly prepared, but they will be much less necessary than in previous years,” said Arancha Gonzalez Laya.

For now, the Moroccan border is closed until July 10. “Everything will depend on the degree of openness of the Moroccan borders,” she explained.

Regarding the opening of European borders for foreign travelers from 1is July, the Spanish official underlined that, in the case of Morocco, this measure will be “symbolic” since the borders of the Kingdom are always closed.
