Operation “Luxor”: Investigation against Anas Schakfeh suspended

In November 2020, raids took place at several associations with possible links to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. In Styria, Carinthia, Lower Austria and Vienna there were dozens of house searches and investigations against 70 suspects. This operation, known as “Luxor”, raised suspicions of financing terrorism and the formation of a terrorist organization.

In the summer of 2021, it turned out that some of the raids were illegal. The Graz Higher Regional Court has granted several complaints against this measure and declared the house search to be unlawful in these cases. In November 2021, the preliminary investigation against a Viennese imam was then discontinued.

The investigation against Schakfeh and another accused from the same environment were now discontinued, the public prosecutor said on Tuesday. The suspicion had simply not been substantiated in these cases, was the reason. Apart from that, the investigations and evaluations of the seized data carriers and evidence continue.
