Opera singer Elsa Kodeda: “In life it is nice when you feel comfortable and content yourself”

She is an opera singer and has been at home in Germany since 2008: Elsa Kodeda. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, she speaks about her life and her definition of feminism.

Geretsried / Wolfratshausen – For International Women’s Day, the sponsoring association for youth and social work (TVJA) has started a podcast series. After the consequences with Filiz Siviloglu from the Johanniter children’s home “Zwergenland” and the ophthalmologist Dr. Gabriele Rogge is in the episode, which can be heard from this Monday, about the opera singer Elsa Kodeda.

At the university in Russia she was a German teacher

Kodeda is 38 years old and originally from Russia. She lived there until the age of 30. “She worked in Russia as a German teacher at the university and as a singer at the opera theater,” reports Hannah Schreyer, who interviewed the 38-year-old for the podcast. First the young woman studied German. At the age of 22, however, she realized that her heart was attached to music and singing. Kodeda has lived in Germany since 2008. Here she found her family happiness.

The soprano realizes that life would be easier as a man from very practical things: men have more physical strength. Schreyer: “In her job, too, she often had to experience that men had more rights of determination and that higher positions were often only occupied by men.” In recent years, the Wolfratshauser has felt more equality. But, in her opinion, more could be done.

Women should have the same rights as men in professional life and in general, they should have more freedom and opportunities to change lives and shape them with little conflict.

Her definition of feminism: “Women should have the same rights as men in professional life and in general, they should have more freedom and opportunities to change life and shape it with few conflicts.” For Kodeda, being a strong woman means feeling good, developing yourself as a member of society, standing by your decisions and supporting your family.

The Russian is particularly proud of doing what she likes in life: making music, teaching children, supporting the family. She would like to carry out more theater projects and workshops for children in the future and also work more intensively in the theater herself.

Role models are her mother, her aunts and her choir director

Kodeda mainly used her mother, her aunts and her choir director in Russia as models – all women who were self-employed, found their way and developed as personalities. Above all, they showed a lot of positive joie de vivre and loving affection. The happiness and fulfillment of staying true to yourself and pursuing your goals: the Russian has always felt, admired and made herself a goal. Her tip for girls and women: “In life it is nice when you feel comfortable and satisfied yourself. You should always look for something beautiful in your surroundings and for a balance to everyday life. ”The meaning of life is often in the small. “This often opens new doors.”
