The publication notes that this is the first time such a specialist has participated in productions and is “a rarity for continental Europe.” The opera’s management decided to hire an intimate interaction director after the emergence of the #MeToo movement, whose participants decided to talk about sexual harassment on film sets and stage.

O’Brien is currently busy directing an adaptation of British playwright William Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, which will premiere at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona on October 28.

Previously, an expert with 40 years of acting experience advised the film company HBO and the streaming service Netflix on intimate scenes. She noted that the responsibilities of the director of intimate scenes include communication with the actors who will play intimate scenes. She will reportedly invite them to hug and then discuss how they feel about being touched by their scene partner, with an emphasis on their boundaries.
