Pete Buttigieg, openly gay prime minister in US history who was one of the stars of the Democratic primary for the 2020 presidential election, and her husband announced on Tuesday that they had become parents.
“For quite some time, Chasten and I have wanted to expand our family. We are delighted to announce that we have become parents!” Tweeted the 39-year-old Minister of Transport.
“The procedure is not yet complete and we are grateful for the love, support and respect for our privacy that have been offered to us. We look forward to saying more soon,” added the former. White House candidate and former rival of Joe Biden.
Chasten Glezman Buttigieg shared the same text on Instagram, along with a bottle emoticon.
The couple gave no further details, but the evocation of a “procedure” made many Internet users think of an adoption.
Some responded to the minister’s tweet with, in addition to congratulations, photos of them with their children or adopted relatives.
Pete Buttigieg is the former mayor of South Bend, a medium-sized town in the state of Indiana. Almost unknown to the general public when he presented his candidacy for the Democratic presidential primaries in April 2019, this former soldier who passed through Afghanistan had a meteoric career.
He is “the first openly LGBT person appointed to a permanent position in the presidential cabinet,” according to the organization Victory Institute.
