Long put on hold, our desires for elsewhere can finally be expressed. Focus on the United States and its megalopolises: our editorial team has selected three new hotels in New York and Los Angeles, to book without delay.
Ace Hotel Brooklyn, New York
Concrete (a lot), wood (Douglas fir, oak and plywood) and leather … The designers of the Roman and Williams agency exude a sensuality on the surface in this hotel inaugurated at the end of July. For their third installment with the Ace Hotel group, they designed the 13-story exterior with the help of Stonehill Taylor, and the interior using a primitive modernist vocabulary. Thus, the 287 rooms reflect raw spaces reminiscent of studios of European artists – Le Corbusier’s Cabanon is cited as a reference. Art is of course present in all its forms: from the artist’s wall ceramic Stan Bitters on the facade to the light installation by Roman and Williams, including the textile works of the rooms.

Modernhaus Soho, New York
Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, this new address unfolds pure lines throughout its 114 rooms. Stylist and interior designer Melissa Bowers (to whom we owe, among others, the Faena Hotel Miami Beach and Casa Faena) worked hand in hand with Jack J. Sitt, who is embarking on the hotel industry. It is the private collection of modern and contemporary art of the latter which is displayed on the walls of the rooms! Jean Dubuffet, George Condo, Hans Hartung… Note, the Jimmy rooftop covers the 18 floors with a decor inspired by Picasso’s blue period and an outdoor swimming pool.

Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel, Los Angeles
Member of Design Hotels, the Proper Hotel is one of the Fashion District’s latest curiosities. Ex-private club of the 1920s then ex-YWCA (World Christian Association of Young Women), the building has just been transformed into a hotel with 148 rooms and suites under the expert hand of interior architect and designer Kelly Wearstler . Who took the city for his muse, playing with different influences, including Mexican modernism. Kelly Wearstler has sprinkled the set with Moroccan and even French details. A nice blend that acts as a link between the past and the present. Among the suites, one has a swimming pool in the living room and the other, a vintage basketball court …
