Polling stations opened Tuesday in New York at 6 a.m. (12 p.m. Swiss) for the US presidential ballot. Some have also opened in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine and Virginia.
By midnight (6 a.m. Swiss), the office in the small village of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, had already opened, as tradition dictates.
Even before polling day, nearly 100 million voters had already voted in advance, a record, either in person or by mail.
