Opening of borders, with restrictions | Radio Vigo

From 01:00 hours on Saturday, May 1, the border crossings between Spain and Portugal are reopened. Of course, that does not mean that you can go to the neighboring country freely because, they reside from the Eixo Atlántico, mobility restrictions remain in force in Galicia, at least, until May 9, the day the Alarm Status ends.

With joy and relief this news was received in Baixo Miño. The main change from Saturday is the opening, more than three months later, of the Ponte da Amizade that connects Tomiño with Vila Nova de Cerveira, which ends with the detours over the Tui and Valença bridge that caused significant retentions and economic losses. The return to normalcy means for many families to recover routines such as taking their children to schools on the other side of the Miño. This is the case of Miriam Padin, which from Monday will return to take his two offspring to the school of Cerveira to be able to reconcile family and work life.

In the political arena, the councils of the raia demand financial compensation from European funds by the consequences of the closing of borders. This has been pointed out in Hoy por Hoy Baixo Miño, Antonio Lomba, mayor of A Guarda.
