And Bernadette Mallot, the director of the said hospital center, took advantage of the last day of the year, Thursday evening, to redo a update on the situation.
An increasing number of deaths
Since the start of the second wave at CH, 102 people died from the coronavirus. “We went from thirty to fifty Covid-19 patients in two weeks and six are currently in intensive care”, details the manager, who notes a ” upsurge of emergency room arrivals ”.
A third Covid unit
The establishment’s first Covid unit (26 beds) as well as the second (20 beds) are saturated or in the process of being. Result:
We should open for the first time a third sector dedicated to Covid in the coming week.

The third level of the white plan soon reactivated
While the hospital had recently come down from the third to the second level of its white plan, so that caregivers can legally take time off in December, “We will probably have to go back to the third level,” says the director.

Start of the vaccination campaign
Said vaccines will initially be reserved onlyresidents and staff of retirement homes. “We could start the week that arrives in our nursing homes, or at the latest by January 15”. And according to a first census, “three-quarters of our residents have agreed to be vaccinated”.

Other projects for 2021
The health crisis will not be the only news for the hospital in 2021. A “nature room” for childbirth will notably be inaugurated this January. The rehabilitation of nursing homes de Courtais (in Montluçon) and des Hirondelles (in Néris) are also on the program. “It’s a 17 million euro project over three years,” says Bernadette Mallot. “Our file has been validated by the department and the regional health agency”. A tender in order to find a prime contractor will therefore be launched during this first quarter of the new year.
