By law, retailers are allowed to be open on Christmas Eve in the morning, which most retailers have used. How many hours do you buy from them?

However, due to the current situation, possible last minute changes cannot be ruled out. It is therefore a good idea to check the opening hours before the purchase itself, for example on the website of a specific chain.

Where it is closed on Christmas Day

Due to the uncertain epidemiological situation and the often changing government regulations, they decided to leave the Penny Market, Lidl and COOP stores closed.

The first and second holiday of Christmas (December 25 and 26)

Workers of most large chains will have a two-day holiday after Christmas Day. An exception is MAKRO or some gas stations, where it has stores such as Tesco (on Saturday, December 26, in operation from 8.30 to 20.00) or Billa.

MAKRO will open on the second Christmas holiday, ie on December 26, from 8 am to 6 pm (customers with the MAKRO gold card can start shopping an hour earlier, ie at 7 am).

Immediately after Christmas (from 27 to 30 December), the retail chains should operate according to normal operating hours. On the contrary, they decided somewhere before the Christmas holidays extend opening hours stores such as Globus, Lidl and Penny.

New Year’s Eve and New Year

According to the calendar, New Year’s Eve is a normal working day, so the law does not regulate the operating hours of 31 December in any way, but it is often shortened by the sellers themselves. So how many hours are they open on the last day of the year?

New Year According to the calendar, it is a national holiday (Day of the Restoration of the Independent Czech State), in which shops with an area of ​​more than 200 square meters must be closed by law. You can buy in some smaller stores or convenience stores.

You can also buy gifts on Christmas Day

If you have fallen asleep to Christmas preparations and the purchase of gifts, do not despair, you can save everything, for example, in one of the stores with electronics or sports equipment, which are also open on Christmas Day:

  • PLANEO within 12 hours, all 94 branches (within 1 hour of ordering in the e-shop, you can also pick up the goods on 24 December, if they are in stock at the store)
  • DATART until 12 noon (stores in Hodonín, Valašské Meziříčí and Nymburk and the dispensing point of the warehouse in Horní Počernice will be closed)
  • Electroworld within 12 hours
  • Decathlon (shops with sports equipment) until 12.00

Online shops: Open also on holidays

You can also get online purchases during the Christmas holidays, Tesco, Košík and Rohlík will bring the goods to you by December 23 in the standard mode.

On Christmas Eve customers will not buy Teska, they are free here until 26 December. Rohlík.cz will deliver on December 24 from 6.00 to 14.00 and is closed on December 25, just like Košík.

On New Year’s Eve Tesco will deliver by 3 pm, further purchase will be possible on January 2, between 8 am and 10 pm. Rohlík.cz will bring a purchase on the last day of the year between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm and on January 1 from 12.00 pm to 10.00 pm, Košík as well with the only difference that it works from 6.00 pm on New Year’s Eve.

As in the classic shops, the online ones will start normal operation (and delivery) on January 3, 2021.

As already mentioned, on some public holidays, establishments over 200 square meters must remain closed. What holidays are they?
