The chat robot with artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT can now remember information about users. The new function is first tested on a small scale.
ChatGPT will be able to store information that users give to the chat robot and take it into account in later conversations. For example, users only have to indicate once how they would like a summary laid out and ChatGPT will automatically revert to that layout.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, emphasizes that users retain full control over the chat robot’s memory. They can disable the feature completely, retrieve everything ChatGPT has remembered, and have specific or even all information deleted.
The feature will be available this week to “a small subset” of ChatGPT users “to learn how useful it is.” OpenAI promises to reveal its plans for a broader rollout later.
