OpenAI announced that they will add a watermark to the image metadata produced by DALL-E 3. OpenAI will use standards from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to mark each image resulting from its AI image generator.
The watermark will be widely applied to everyone who uses DALL-E 3 technology, including when creating AI images with ChatGPT or using third-party applications via the API. The watermark with the C2PA standard itself will provide a mark not only on metadata but also on images.
Information in the metadata will later contain data about the AI tool used, the name of the application used, and information that the image is the result of AI. Meanwhile, the image itself will have a watermark with the CR symbol at the top left and a description of the date the image was created.
This announcement from OpenAI follows steps from Meta which plans to label AI-generated content on its three social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Apart from that, Meta also encourages players in other AI industries to take the same steps in this regard.

Why is this important? In this era of sophisticated AI, it is not uncommon for irresponsible people to use this technology to deceive or damage someone’s reputation. At least by notifying that the content the user is viewing is the result of AI, it is hoped that it can reduce the incidence of misinformation in cyberspace. What do you think?
