ChatGPT-maker OpenAI forms a special department who goes all out to curb the unintended consequences of superintelligence. This is the kind of intelligence of AI that surpasses humans in all areas. OpenAI firmly believes that this so-called AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) will actually arrive, probably within the next decade.
“Superintelligence will be the most influential technology humanity has ever invented, and could help us solve many of the world’s most important problems,” the company said. But that (hypothetical) arrival will not be without danger: “The enormous power of superintelligence can also be dangerous and can lead to the impotence of humanity or even the extinction of man.”

It is the now well-known story, told by part of the AI community and about which a group also warns. Opponents of this theory argue that companies like OpenAI have an interest in presenting the world with a fairy tale of super AI. According to them, the real dangers of AI lie much closer to home, for example as a means to easily create and spread disinformation.
