Friday evening turned out to be rich in unpleasant news for OpenAI management. In addition to the resignation of CEO Sam Altman, Greg Brockman announced his resignation as chairman and president. In fact, one of the founders of the company that created ChatGPT will simply leave it, although a few hours ago it was believed that Brockman would retain a position subordinate to the new director.
Greg Brockman from the pages of the social network X in his treatment to former colleagues and subordinates he stated the following: “I’m very proud of what we’ve built since we started eight years ago in my home. We’ve been through tough times and great times together, achieving great things despite all the odds that made it impossible, but as the news says today, I’m leaving. I wish you all the best and continue to believe in the mission of creating a safe AGI (artificial general intelligence) that benefits all humanity”.
OpenAI’s initial announcement stated that President and Chairman Greg Brockman would step down from his current positions but would remain with the company in a position reporting to the new CEO. The company’s technical director, Mira Murati, will temporarily act as the latter until a worthy successor is selected. Current OpenAI management has expressed confidence in her ability to successfully serve as interim CEO. Sam Altman is reportedly being forced to step down as CEO due to the board’s lack of confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI. Altman himself did not publicly say anything about the reasons for the loss of trust, nor did he talk about his future plans.
