OpenAI brings new ChatGPT voice mode to Switzerland

OpenAI is now making the new “Advanced Voice” mode available in Europe. The function enables natural conversations and can even speak Swiss German.

The American software company OpenAI is now also bringing the “Advanced Voice” mode to Europe – and thus also to Switzerland. This gave OpenAI known on X. At the end of July, OpenAI announced that the first users of ChatGPT Plus could use the new function.

The mode brings more interaction options and makes the chatbot sound like a real person, like “Blick” reported. The tool is even said to be able to speak Swiss German, but with some difficulties in understanding the dialect. The voice mode also has a different design: During conversations with the “Advanced Voice” function, a blue, animated ball replaces the black dots of the standard voice.

That’s not all, because ChatGPT will also receive five new voices: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce and Val. They complement the existing voices Breeze, Juniper, Cove and Ember, making a total of nine voices available. A tenth voice, Sky, would also have been part of the new voice mode. However, this voice was very similar to that of actress Scarlett Johansson. OpenAI has therefore decided to stop using Sky “out of respect” for Scarlett Johansson.

OpenAI announced in July that it wanted to integrate a new search function into ChatGPT. Read more about it here.
