Open voice, Putin: US does not care about Ukraine’s security, main task is to restrain Russia’s development

MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – President Russia Vladimir Putin finally open the voice about the tension that occurred in Ukrainian border or Ukrainian conflict.

On Tuesday (1/2/2022), Putin accused West, including United States of America (US) has so far ignored Russia’s security concerns.

He accused the West of only using Ukraine as a tool to contain Russia.

On the other hand, Putin hopes a solution can be found to end the escalating tensions.

Putin said the Kremlin was studying responses from the United States and NATO to Moscow’s security demands, but that it was far from adequate.

Putin’s remarks were his first public remarks in weeks about the crisis sparked by fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“It is clear that Russia’s fundamental concerns have finally been ignored,” Putin told reporters after talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Moscow, Russia.

Putin then repeated Russia’s demands for legally binding security guarantees against further NATO expansion and deployment of attack facilities near Russian borders, as well as for NATO’s return to military positions prior to 1997.

“It seems to me that the United States doesn’t really care about Ukraine’s security,” Putin said, as reported by the state news agency AFP, Wednesday (2/2/2022).

“The main task (of the US) is to contain Russia’s developments. Ukraine itself is only a tool to achieve this goal,” Putin added.

“This can be done in different ways. To draw us into some kind of armed conflict. And to force, among other things, their allies in Europe to impose harsh sanctions against us as the United States is talking about,” Putin said.

But the Russian leader indicated he was ready for more talks with the West.

“I hope that in the end we will find a solution, even if it is not simple,” Putin said.

Alleged invasion

Tensions between Russia and the West have reached levels not seen since the end of the Cold War after Moscow amassed more than 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine.

Western leaders have accused Russia of preparing for an invasion of its pro-Western neighbor and warned of severe consequences if it attacked.

Meanwhile, Russia has insisted it has no plans to attack and has instead put forward its own proposals that it says will ease tensions.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday urged Russia to “immediately” de-escalate tensions and withdraw its troops in a call with his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov.

Lavrov said the US had agreed to a call for further discussions on Moscow’s demands.

“Let’s see how it goes,” he said.
