Within Open VLD there was a vigorous debate last week about a vaccination obligation, something the liberals have always opposed. But in The Sunday the prime minister left the door ajar. ‘The goal is clear: we have to vaccinate everyone. If mandatory vaccination can contribute to this, I am willing to consider it,” said the prime minister.
‘As Prime Minister De Croo has said before: we don’t like to tie someone up to prick him. A liberal cannot support such a thing. It is also practically unachievable. That is why a 1G policy is the best solution,” says Lachaert The morning.
From spring
Under a 1G policy, only people who are up-to-date with their vaccinations can participate in public life. From early spring, as soon as the booster campaign has been completed, Open VLD advocates the use of a new vaccination certificate, which should replace the Covid Safe Ticket (CST) and grant access to catering, major events, sports competitions, cultural performances and so on.
Since the summer of 2021, Belgium has been working with a 3G policy: people who have been fully vaccinated against the corona virus, who have tested negative for the corona virus or who have been cured after being infected with the corona virus, are allowed to participate in public life.
