N-VA – which is not in favor of a complete nuclear phase-out in our country – wants to forge the iron when it is hot, it seems: N-VA MP Bert Wollants announces that he will submit a bill to delete Article 3 from the nuclear exit law. It states that no new nuclear power plant intended for industrial electricity production by fission of nuclear fuels can be established and/or put into operation.
“I therefore hope that the liberals will put their words into action in this area and support my bill,” Wollants said. N-VA wants to keep the two youngest nuclear power stations open in the short term and to research new nuclear technology in the long term.
“More and more countries are also opting for small modular reactors. That is an idea in which we see absolute benefit in leaving gas-fired power stations completely behind us in the future and opting for a mix of renewable and nuclear energy.”
