Open Space 2024: Three months of listening to music, dancing, playing and meeting at the Domshof

From the beginning of June to the end of August 2024, the Open Space has ensured for the sixth time that Bremen’s largest square became an exciting meeting place for everyone in the summer. This year, the organizer was again the Bremen University of the Arts (HfK), which, according to its own statement, was able to reach significantly more young people (under 25 years of age) this year with a great program and successful press work on social media. Spokesman David Bartusch draws a positive conclusion: “After we had a survey carried out by the City Initiative last year, which provided a lot of positive feedback and some suggestions, we were able to receive a lot of praise and enthusiasm from visitors again this year. In my view, the booking team in particular must be praised for their excellent work this year. The concert program was extremely varied and was very well received.”

A total of 98 events took place in the three months, and the stage was also used by other organizers, such as the World Heritage Days, the Hoeg and La Strada Festivals, and the Clubverstärker. A stage that becomes an integral part of inner-city life for months is something special, and not just for Bremen. All concerts are free and – as far as possible on the Domshof – barrier-free. There is no obligation to consume anything. Anyone who still wants a glass of wine or another refreshment will be served in the Ratskeller pavilion.

It is difficult to count how many people used the open space due to the normal fluctuation at the Domshof. The organizers are assuming around 25,000 participants. There were many highlights again this year. The concerts by Ebow, Bube and Sarah4k were very popular, as were the opera evening and the orchestra concert by the HfK and the group singing with Team Bröker. The traditional lunch concepts during the regular market also took place again, with the Alafia Ensemble and Skupa delighting the audience. The kids also got their money’s worth – the visit to the Bremen and Bremerhaven knowledge worlds and the “Perlenauster” will be remembered, for example. And there was dancing again, too, for example freestyle at the All Style Battle, Salsa & Baccata or at the JD Club Sessions.

The HfK was supported in the implementation by other players in the event scene and the Bremen Ratskeller. Open Space 2024 was financed by the Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation and the Bremen Economic Development Agency.
