After the district of Leipzig made headlines in the past few weeks, mainly because of anti-corona protests, an open letter was published.
The letter is intended to address the part of the population in the district of Leipzig and also in all of Saxony who are venting their dissatisfaction with the Corona policy in an anti-democratic way.
“We all suffer from the restrictions, the burden on families, retailers, restaurateurs, accommodation providers, entrepreneurs, doctors and above all for the staff in the hospitals and care facilities,” wrote the city of Grimma.
“Nevertheless, the vast majority of our citizens think the corona protection measures are right and important!”

In some groups, however, there is still clear skepticism about the measures – which is understandable and legitimate, as the statement went on to say.
“Absolutely unacceptable, however, are calls for violence, threats against people and openly propagated murder plans,” the city found in clear words.
“These groups are not ‘the people’, they are a small fraction that gets a lot of attention through volume and violence. Corona critics who ‘walk’ next to violent criminals have to put up with being equated with them. Also participation is taking sides.”

With the open letter, the district is making an appeal to the population not to allow “agitators and anti-democrats” to abuse German democracy and instead to listen to science and politics.
“Let’s not allow ourselves to be divided into hostile groups and let’s not run after those who will always find a reason to roar out their hatred of our democracy and our country,” wrote those responsible.
