Constructive exchange on environmental, climate and nature conservation
Vienna (OTS) – Vice Chancellor and Minister of Culture Werner Kogler and Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler met this week for an exchange with some of the first signatories of the open letter published in September “Appeal from well-known artists to the federal government to decide on the lack of climate protection measures” invited to the Climate Protection Ministry.
Currently, more than 50 well-known artists have already signed the demands. On the part of the initiators of the open letter, the actresses Valerie Huber, Verena Altenberger, Hilde Dalik and Lilian Klebow took part in the conversation.
Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler:
“Austria’s artists are networking and committed to climate protection. This initiative deserves respect and an exchange on equal terms. We therefore invited the committed artists to discuss current topics in climate, environment and nature conservation. During the conversation, we agreed that we must move forward together with courage in order to overcome feelings of powerlessness and slow down those who are slowing down with their old thinking. Because we have no time to lose in climate protection, but rather more opportunities to gain.”
Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler:
“Art and culture are very important in Austria. Committed artists in particular can make a decisive contribution to increasing awareness of climate and environmental protection in the public debate and in society. You are an important voice for more climate protection in Austria. We need this commitment and courage in the fight against the climate crisis. Because one thing is clear: we can only succeed in climate protection together. I would like to thank you all the more for the open exchange and look forward to future discussions.”
The meeting was focused, among other things, on the big visions and questions for climate protection. “Where do we want to be in 25 years?” “How do we make climate protection more attractive?” “How do we manage to think long-term and clearly communicate that the future belongs to our children?”
The Green government members announced in the conversation that they wanted to continue the dialogue together and follow up with further discussions towards the common goal of more climate protection.
