Yordan Lozanov and Georgi Papakochev – two of the creators and first presenters of the popular program “12 plus 3” on BNR today distributed a second Open Letter against the statements of the pro-Russian propagandist Petar Volgin on the national radio. In 2014, the two journalists published their first letter, warning that Volgin had turned the “12+3” studio into a mouthpiece for undisguised and targeted political propaganda, launching pro-Russian and Eurasian theses.

WE ARE NOT JUST ASHAMED, WE ARE ALSO DISGUSTED

Exactly one decade ago, on January 4, 2014, we, two of the creators of the program “12+3” on the program “Horizon” of the BNR, published an open letter in which we expressed our shame at the host of the public media, Peter Volgin. / And if he had chosen another Russian river to change his surname, for example “Lena”?/
At that time, the “radio journalist” in question was already regularly booed by the protesters against the then government of the anti-European and Russophile oligarchy for turning the studio of “12+3” into a mouthpiece of undisguised and targeted political propaganda, through which crude anti-European and anti-Western attacks at the expense of pro-Russian and Eurasian theses.
Even then, in 2014, such talk was far from the European and Euro-Atlantic affiliation of the country, it was incompatible with its national interests and it was absurd to be broadcast on the public radio with the widest coverage in the country.
Ten years after our open letter, we are forced to state that nothing in Peter Volgin’s behavior has changed. Moreover, with the tolerant protection from the highest place in the state, the CEM, the administration of the BNR and “Horizon”, he expanded his propaganda territory both in the midday “12+3” and in his scandalous Saturday author’s show “Political incorrect”, which quickly managed to attach to the program “Horizon” the ironic nickname “Radio Moscow”.
After his scandalous interview with Mitrofanova was stopped, the person also engaged in propaganda on the EU-banned “Russia 1” television, which led to an unprecedented public reaction of a Bulgarian prime minister.
Apparently, Volgin, as a famous character from TV commercials says, has grown his “bonus”. And maybe “Rublev” has already appeared, valued in Moscow even higher than “Kopeykin”?
The radio host’s incessant propaganda statements show that BNR not only does not want, but has long been unable to be a responsible public media, which is financed by all of us not to make pro-Putin propaganda, but to defend the state and its official foreign policy positions. In this sense, the supposed arguments of some members of the CEM, as well as of the current government of the BNR about “free speech”/ at the personal suggestion of Volgin/, which resemble the strongholds of the Kremlin’s “fifth column” in European and Euro-Atlantic Bulgaria, sound absurd and unacceptable. It was heard that BNR was going to organize a discussion on freedom of speech and disinformation. The result is known in advance – we will just see another sweep of the problem under the radio’s red carpet and then “Seki makes up his own mind”.
Therefore, 10 years after our open letter “We are ashamed!”, today we have reason to declare that in addition to shame, we also feel disgust. From something that dozens of honorable, talented journalists at Horizont and BNR do not deserve, not to mention the audience that we really created with our hard work and professional journalistic efforts at the time. And to which we thank that it still remains as we saw it in our dreams on January 4, 1989 – the birth date of “12 plus 3” a full 35 years ago!
