Open Fiber, 4 million investment for ultra-fast internet in Crema

Rome, 9 Feb. (Adnkronos)

Open Fiber’s optical fiber will also connect Crema, a city of art and an important production center in Lombardy, which will soon welcome a great work capable of enabling the digital future for citizens and businesses in the area. The city council yesterday approved the agreement with Open Fiber which will govern the city’s cabling plan. The company led by Elisabetta Ripa, reads a note, will directly invest around 4 million euros to create a new infrastructure, in FTTH mode (Fiber To The Home), which ensures a connection speed of up to 1 Gigabit per second. There are over 13 thousand real estate units that will be wired and that they will be able to take advantage of a fast and “future-proof” network.

The final design of the infrastructure, a prelude to the executive interventions, will end in the coming weeks. The agreement between Open Fiber and the Municipality of Crema, which is valid for 20 years, establishes the excavation and restoration procedures for laying the optical fiber and the rights of use on the new infrastructure, while ensuring its management and maintenance. The installation will take place through the reuse of existing underground or aerial ducts and networks, while the excavations, with the aim of limiting the inconvenience to circulation, will be carried out by favoring innovative methods with low environmental impact (for example, the “micro trench”) . The works will begin in late spring and will last approximately 18 months.

As part of the agreement, Open Fiber is committed to reaching 30 buildings of public interest with ultra-fast fiber: therefore, not only homes and condominiums, but also schools, offices and public administration structures.

“We are happy that Open Fiber invests in our territory”, comments the mayor of Crema, Stefania Bonaldi. “Our city, unlike other neighboring municipalities, is a black zone, that is an advanced urban context left to the interventions of private companies and where state and community aid is not envisaged. These investments – he underlines – certify the presence in the future of more networks of this type, therefore greater coverage of the service and competition between operators. This network will speed up the digitization process, thus improving the quality of the connection for citizens and consequently also that of their relationship with the public administration. The advantages will also be evident for local businesses, which with the connection to ultra-broadband will be able to be more competitive on the market. A central element both for our provincial territory and for the specific objectives that our city focuses on the innovation of our production chains “.

“Today a project is starting that will change the face of the city of Crema – underlines Paolo Visconti, Network & Operations Manager North West Area of Open Fiber -, transforming it into a modern Smart City: we are happy with the collaboration established with the municipal administration, a fundamental partner for the success of the plan. The infrastructure that we are going to build is of primary importance for citizens and companies, especially in a particularly difficult era such as the one we are going through due to Covid-19. This new investment further strengthens the role of Open Fiber in Lombardy, an area in which investments of approximately 500 million euros are underway only in the black areas, that is to say the large cities and the more urbanized centers, to which the allocated resources are added. for the #BUL plan in the white areas “.

The FTTH network, the best in circulation according to Agcom enough to earn it the green label of ‘pure fiber’, allows, even simultaneously, to carry out videoconferences of excellent quality, to follow distance learning programs without interruptions, to work in smart working managing to transfer large amounts of data: all this by virtue of a very high browsing speed, a stable connection and a very low latency that avoids delays in data transmission. Open Fiber is a wholesale only operator: it does not sell fiber optic services directly to the end customer, but is exclusively active in the wholesale market, offering access to all interested market operators and Internet service providers. This means that once the saleability of the service has started, the citizens and businesses of Crema will be able to choose the operator and the offer that best suits their needs.
