My Flutter app uses beacons and Gemini to guide visually impaired users to a door.
function
‘Open Doors’ is an app designed to support the visually impaired using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and text-to-speech (TTS) technology. Based on the idea of Jasmine, a blind friend who had trouble getting out of her Uber and finding the entrance to a building, the app guides users from the sidewalk to the doorknob. Detect BLE beacons at key locations and provide voice guidance using the flutter_tts package. As a non-developer, I set up the development environment, handled dependencies, and configured settings using AI tools like Gemini and ChatGPT. The app works, but needs further testing, especially on TTS and navigation features. Future plans include improving these features and expanding the functionality of the app. ‘Open Doors’ shows that with the will and the right tools, anyone can achieve meaningful results. Building on this experience, we will pursue future R&D to build AI tools for all learners, so that AIs like Gemini can provide the support they need to achieve their personal goals.
